About

Qianwei Liu is a rising leader in the development of advanced, sustainable polymer materials, with a primary focus on vitrimers and high-performance hydrogels. Her most impactful work addresses a critical challenge in thermosetting plastics: achieving reprocessability without sacrificing material integrity. Her landmark 2024 study on "Water‐Assisted Reprocessing and Shape Programming of Epoxy Vitrimer" (21 citations) introduced a groundbreaking, low-energy method to reshape and recycle these traditionally permanent networks, circumventing the degradation often caused by heat or light. This work has significant implications for the circular economy of high-performance composites. More recently, in 2025, Liu has pioneered a novel approach to hydrogel mechanics. Her work on "Crystallization‐Induced Network Growth" (3 citations) draws direct inspiration from biological muscle growth, using cyclic crystallization to actively strengthen and grow a hydrogel’s polymer network. This bio-inspired strategy represents a paradigm shift in creating self-reinforcing soft materials.
