About

Peter Gage is a leading aerospace engineer whose work is central to NASA’s most ambitious planetary exploration missions. His primary research focuses on thermal protection systems (TPS) and advanced entry, descent, and landing (EDL) technologies for extreme atmospheric environments. Gage’s major contributions include his leadership in developing the Heat-shield for Extreme Entry Environment Technology (HEEET), a cutting-edge ablative TPS designed to withstand the punishing conditions of Venus and Saturn probe entries. He also pioneered the Adaptive Deployable Entry Placement Technology (ADEPT), a mechanically deployable aeroshell concept that enables larger payloads to be delivered to Mars and other destinations. His foundational 2013 evaluation of the NASA Arc Jet facilities, cited 16 times, remains a critical reference for validating TPS materials under flight-like conditions.
