Pavimol Angsantikul is a pioneer in the emerging field of biomimetic nanorobotics, where she engineers synthetic micro- and nanoscale robots cloaked in natural cell membranes. Her research lies at the intersection of materials science, microbiology, and biomedical engineering, with a primary focus on developing intelligent therapeutic platforms that can operate within the complex physiological environment. Her most celebrated contribution is the creation of hybrid biomembrane–functionalized nanorobots, which concurrently remove pathogenic bacteria and neutralize dangerous pore-forming toxins like α-toxin. This work, published in 2018 and cited over 280 times, demonstrated that these nanorobots can achieve rapid, prolonged acoustic propulsion in whole blood without biofouling—mimicking the movement of natural motile cells to enhance binding and detoxification.
