Patricia Leconte’s research bridges two critical frontiers: stroke rehabilitation and human-robot collaboration. Her work focuses on understanding how rhythmic and discrete upper-limb movements—controlled by distinct neural pathways—are affected by stroke, and how robotic assistance can enhance recovery. In her highly cited 2016 study (24 citations), she demonstrated that rhythmic arm movements are less impaired than discrete ones after a stroke, challenging conventional therapy approaches. She followed this with a longitudinal pilot study showing that rhythmic robotic training improves both motor primitives, offering a novel rehabilitation strategy.
