About
Ninghan Feng is a pioneering urologic surgeon whose research centers on reconstructive techniques for complex ureteral injuries and strictures. His most impactful work addresses one of urology’s most daunting complications—ureteral avulsion during ureteroscopic lithotripsy. In his landmark 2022 case series, Feng demonstrated that ileal ureteral replacement (IUR) can effectively salvage kidneys that would otherwise be lost, reporting successful outcomes in ten patients over a decade. This study, which has garnered 19 citations, established a critical surgical pathway for managing complete ureteral loss. Feng has also advanced the field of ureteral reconstruction by comparing robotic and laparoscopic approaches for lingual mucosa graft ureteroplasty. His 2022 comparative study (9 citations) showed that robotic assistance offers superior ergonomics and precision for these delicate procedures, potentially reducing operative time and complications. By systematically evaluating both open and minimally invasive reconstructive options, Feng has provided surgeons with evidence-based algorithms for managing the full spectrum of ureteral pathology. His work not only expands the reconstructive urologist’s armamentarium but also improves long-term renal preservation in patients with devastating ureteral injuries.
