About

Myungshin Im is a leading figure in observational astrophysics, renowned for his pioneering work in time-domain astronomy and the development of robotic telescope systems. His key research areas include extragalactic microlensing, supernovae, and the construction of automated observatories for both education and frontier science. Im made a major contribution with the Angstrom Project Alert System (APAS), which enabled real-time detection of stellar microlensing events in the Andromeda Galaxy (M31), a critical step in probing dark matter and stellar populations beyond the Milky Way. His work has garnered over 17 citations for this foundational study. Im also spearheaded the installation of the Lee Sang Gak Telescope (LSGT) at Siding Spring Observatory, Australia—a remotely operated 0.43-meter robotic telescope that provides Seoul National University with exclusive access to southern skies for research and training.
