About

Morokot Sakal is a space systems engineer whose work centers on the design, thermal management, and attitude control of small satellites, with a particular focus on microsatellites and CubeSats for Earth observation and communication. As a key contributor to the Space Robotics Laboratory (SRL) at Tohoku University, Sakal played an integral role in the development of RISESAT, a 50-kg-class microsatellite launched in 2019. Their research on the assembly and integration of the satellite’s optical downlink terminal (VSOTA) helped advance cost-effective optical communication from small platforms, while their thermal design and evaluation work ensured the satellite’s survival and performance in orbit—contributing to a combined citation count of over 13 for these efforts.
