About
Manijeh Razeghi is a pioneering figure in semiconductor physics and optoelectronics, renowned for her groundbreaking contributions to quantum well infrared photodetectors (QWIPs) and type-II superlattice (SLS) technologies. Her work has fundamentally advanced infrared imaging, enabling high-performance detectors critical for space-based Earth observation. Notably, her research supported NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, where DARPA-funded efforts in 1988 led to the development of single-element GaAs QWIPs that evolved into two-dimensional arrays, revolutionizing satellite imaging systems like Landsat and the International Space Station. With over 1,000 published papers and more than 30,000 citations, Razeghi’s impact is immense. She holds numerous patents and has received prestigious awards, including the IBM Europe Science and Technology Prize. Her leadership at Northwestern University’s Center for Quantum Devices continues to inspire students and researchers, bridging fundamental physics with real-world applications in defense, environmental monitoring, and astronomy.
