L. Kaderhandt is an observational astrophysicist whose research focuses on the inner workings of active galactic nuclei (AGN) and the study of variable stars. Kaderhandt’s major contributions lie in the application of dust reverberation-mapping, a technique used to measure the size and structure of the dust torus surrounding supermassive black holes. In a highly cited 2015 study (23 citations), Kaderhandt led a three-year monitoring campaign of the Seyfert 1 galaxy PGC 50427, using robotic telescopes at Cerro Armazones, Chile, to simultaneously track optical and near-infrared variability. This work provided critical constraints on the broad-line region and dust torus size.
