About

Kaushik Chowdhury is a leading researcher at the forefront of networked robotic systems and next-generation wireless communications. His work tackles fundamental challenges in enabling reliable, low-latency connectivity for autonomous systems, particularly in industrial and underwater environments. Chowdhury’s major contributions include developing RFClock, a system for fine-grained distributed coordination in emerging applications like beamforming and intelligent reflector arrays (42 citations). He also pioneered L-NORM, which uses machine learning to orchestrate network connectivity for robots on factory floors, and iSense, a novel approach using coupled magnetic resonant coils for intelligent object sensing and robot tracking. His work on ReLy applies machine learning to achieve ultra-reliable, low-latency messaging critical for industrial robot safety and coordination. Most recently, Chowdhury has extended his expertise to underwater robotics with Pisces, a low-power 3D localization system for Autonomous Underwater Vehicles that overcomes GPS limitations using Angle of Arrival techniques. His research consistently bridges theoretical innovation with practical system implementation, making him a pivotal figure in the convergence of wireless networking, robotics, and cyber-physical systems.
