About

Kathleen C. Weathers is a pioneering ecosystem ecologist whose work has fundamentally reshaped our understanding of how atmospheric deposition, climate change, and land use interact to govern the health of freshwater and terrestrial ecosystems. Her research, which bridges biogeochemistry and landscape ecology, has been instrumental in revealing the critical role of fog and cloud water as major nutrient and pollutant vectors. With over 6,000 citations across her career, Weathers is best known for her landmark contributions to the Hubbard Brook Ecosystem Study, where she demonstrated that dry deposition and cloud-water interception are often more significant than rainfall in delivering nitrogen and sulfur to forests. She also co-led the development of the "Watershed Approach" for studying ecosystem resilience, a framework now used globally. A Fellow of the Ecological Society of America and the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Weathers has been a tireless advocate for long-term ecological monitoring and interdisciplinary collaboration, mentoring a generation of scientists who continue to advance her integrative vision of ecosystem science.
