Karl T. Edquist is a leading aerospace engineer whose research focuses on the critical phases of planetary entry, descent, and landing (EDL). His work is foundational to enabling future robotic and human missions to Mars and other planetary bodies. Edquist’s most significant contribution is his leadership of the "Mars Aerocapture Systems Study" (2006), a landmark investigation that rigorously assessed aerocapture—a technique using a planet’s atmosphere to slow a spacecraft—for a large Mars robotic orbiter.
