About
Joss Bland-Hawthorn is a leading figure in astronomical instrumentation and observational astrophysics, with research spanning Galactic archaeology, galaxy formation and evolution, and the development of cutting-edge spectroscopic technologies. His most celebrated contribution is the HERMES spectrograph at the Anglo-Australian Telescope (AAT), a facility-class optical instrument purpose-built for the GALAH Galactic Archaeology Survey — an ambitious program to reconstruct the formation history of the Milky Way through detailed stellar chemical analysis.
