About

Jonathan Aning is a urological surgeon and clinical researcher whose work centers on prostate cancer surgery, oncological outcomes, and patient quality of life following radical prostatectomy. Based at a UK tertiary referral centre, Aning has made significant contributions to the evidence base surrounding robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP), exploring its application across a spectrum of disease complexity — from localised high-risk prostate cancer to oligo-metastatic disease. His involvement in the TRoMbone trial, the first randomised feasibility study examining radical prostatectomy in men with bone-metastatic prostate cancer, represents a landmark contribution to the field, garnering over 55 citations since its 2021 publication. His research has also advanced understanding of surgical margin status, extra-prostatic extension prediction using mpMRI, and postoperative lower urinary tract symptoms, collectively accumulating nearly 250 citations across his most influential works. Notably, Aning has championed a holistic approach to cancer care, investigating the role of resistance exercise training and fatigue management in improving cardiovascular health and quality of life after surgery. His work reflects a commitment to both surgical excellence and the broader well-being of prostate cancer patients.
