About

Dr. Jintao Chen is a leading researcher at the intersection of cyber-physical systems, real-time computing, and embedded artificial intelligence. His work fundamentally addresses the challenge of integrating intelligent, deep neural network (DNN)-based controllers onto resource-constrained heterogeneous platforms, such as those found in robotics, drones, and autonomous vehicles. Chen’s major contribution is pioneering a co-design methodology that unifies controller capability with system scheduling, moving beyond traditional, disjointed approaches. His seminal paper, "SCENIC: Capability and Scheduling Co-Design for Intelligent Controller on Heterogeneous Platforms," introduces a framework that simultaneously optimizes both what a controller can achieve and how it is executed in real-time. This work, already garnering early citations, provides a critical foundation for building safe, efficient, and high-performance autonomous systems. By tackling the fundamental tension between the computational demands of DNNs and the strict timing constraints of control loops, Chen is shaping the future of intelligent, real-world autonomy.
