About
Jeeeun Kim is a leading researcher at the intersection of human-computer interaction, digital fabrication, and assistive robotics. Her work fundamentally reimagines how everyday passive objects can be transformed into interactive, robotically manipulable systems. Kim’s most influential contribution is the "Romeo" system (2020, 11 citations), which introduces a paradigm for reconfiguring object shapes—enabling a coffee cup holder to attach to a chair armrest or a piggy bank to "steal" coins—thereby endowing static objects with robotic functionalities through accessible 3D printing. Building on this, her "Roman" project (2022, 11 citations) addresses a critical challenge in robotics: making ordinary hand-tools and kitchen utensils manipulable by a single robotic arm with a generic gripper, using 3D-printable add-on mechanisms.
