About
Jad Ramadan is a head and neck surgeon whose research has significantly advanced the safety and reconstructive techniques of transoral robotic surgery (TORS). His work centers on two critical areas: understanding and mitigating the risks of postoperative hemorrhage, and developing innovative reconstructive approaches to improve patient outcomes. His landmark 2020 meta-analysis, cited over 100 times, systematically quantified the incidence, risk factors, and management of bleeding complications after TORS, providing the first comprehensive evidence base that has since guided clinical protocols worldwide. This work established him as a leading voice in surgical safety. In a complementary 2021 clinical series, Ramadan demonstrated the novel application of the nasoseptal flap for reconstructing lateral oropharyngectomy defects, a technique that expands reconstructive options and reduces morbidity for patients undergoing TORS. By directly addressing the most common and dangerous complication of TORS while simultaneously pioneering new reconstructive methods, Ramadan’s research has had a tangible impact on both the safety and functional outcomes of robotic head and neck surgery, influencing practice patterns for surgeons and improving care for patients with oropharyngeal cancer.
