About
J. C. Clemens is a leading figure in the study of hot subdwarf B (sdB) stars and their pulsational properties, with a particular focus on the newly discovered class of sdB variables (sdBV). His most cited work, the 2010 study of CS 1246 (25 citations), reports the first detection of a large-amplitude oscillation in this star, a landmark discovery that expanded the known range of variability in sdB stars. Using the innovative Panchromatic Robotic Optical Monitoring and Polarimetry Telescopes (PROMPT) array, Clemens and his team combined multicolour photometry with time-resolved spectroscopy to characterize the star’s pulsation modes and atmospheric parameters.
