About

Hyuk Jun Yoo is a rising leader in the autonomous materials discovery space, pioneering the integration of robotics, computer vision, and AI to create safer and more efficient chemistry laboratories. His research focuses on three critical pillars: machine vision for lab safety, autonomous experimentation for materials synthesis, and intelligent operating systems for robotic platforms. In his highly cited 2024 work on machine vision-based detections of transparent chemical vessels, Yoo addressed a fundamental safety bottleneck in automated labs—enabling systems to "see" and avoid dangerous accidents from control errors.
