About
Heng Zhu is a molecular biologist whose research has made significant contributions to fungal genomics and plant pathology. His most notable work centers on the genomic analysis of *Magnaporthe grisea*, the devastating fungal pathogen responsible for rice blast disease — one of the most destructive threats to global rice production. In his landmark 1997 study, which has garnered 59 citations, Zhu and colleagues constructed a large-insert bacterial artificial chromosome (BAC) library containing fragments of approximately 130 kilobase pairs from the *M. grisea* genome. This achievement enabled comprehensive genome analysis, contig assembly, and gene cloning, providing the research community with foundational tools to understand the molecular architecture of this agriculturally critical pathogen.
