About
Finn Jelke is a rising leader in the application of Raman spectroscopy for intraoperative neurosurgical guidance. His research focuses on developing label-free, non-destructive optical techniques to improve the precision of brain tumor resections, particularly for meningiomas. In his most cited work (26 citations), Jelke demonstrated that Raman spectroscopy can reliably discriminate native meningioma tissue from healthy dura mater during surgery—a critical capability for achieving total resection and reducing tumor recurrence. He further advanced the field by systematically investigating how formalin and cryofixation alter Raman spectra of human tissues, providing essential protocols for building robust spectral classifiers from tumor bank samples. This work bridges the gap between ex vivo biobanking and real-time surgical decision-making.
