About
Erman Timurdogan is a leading figure in silicon photonics, whose work has been instrumental in advancing integrated photonic systems for sensing and communication. His research centers on the co-design and monolithic integration of photonic and electronic circuits, particularly through innovative 3D integration platforms. Timurdogan’s major contributions include the development of the first fully integrated coherent LiDAR system, demonstrated in a landmark 2019 paper (53 citations). This work, which combined a custom silicon photonics layer with a 65nm CMOS electronic circuit, achieved experimental ranging in the eye-safe 1550nm band, solving a critical challenge in autonomous sensing. His achievements also extend to high-efficiency grating couplers and ultra-low-power modulators, which have been widely adopted in the field. With over 100 peer-reviewed publications and numerous invited talks, Timurdogan’s work has been cited more than 5,000 times, reflecting its profound impact on both academic research and industrial applications. His pioneering integration approach is now a cornerstone for next-generation LiDAR, data communication, and optical computing systems.
