About
Eric Paulos is a pioneering researcher whose work spans telerobotics, tele-embodiment, human-computer interaction, and urban computing. Beginning in the mid-1990s, Paulos helped lay the conceptual and technical groundwork for internet-connected robotics, most notably through his development of web-based telerobotic systems that allowed users worldwide to inhabit and interact with remote physical environments — work that earned his 2002 paper on delivering "real reality" via telerobotics 95 citations. His influential concept of "tele-embodiment," explored through projects like PRoP (Personal Roving Presences), challenged dominant Cartesian models of online communication by reintroducing the body as a central element of remote interaction.
