About
E. Harvey is a key figure in the development of next-generation robotic astronomical facilities, with a primary research focus on time-domain astronomy and the design of large, fully automated telescopes. As a core member of the New Robotic Telescope (NRT) project, Harvey has been instrumental in advancing the concept of a 4-meter-class, fully robotic telescope destined for the Observatory of Roque de los Muchachos in La Palma, Spain. Their major contributions include leading the design and feasibility studies for the NRT, which aims to build upon the legacy of the highly successful Liverpool Telescope by enabling rapid, autonomous responses to transient cosmic events. Harvey’s work, documented in key progress reports from 2019 to 2021, has helped define the technical and operational requirements for what will likely be the largest fully robotic telescope in the world. While the project is still in development, these foundational papers have already garnered attention within the astronomical instrumentation community, establishing Harvey as a driving force behind the next leap in robotic observatory capability.
