About
Dominique Archambault is a leading researcher at the intersection of assistive technology, human-robot interaction, and neurodevelopmental disorders. Their work focuses on developing innovative robotic and digital tools to support children with dysgraphia and other handwriting difficulties. Archambault’s most impactful contribution is the CoWriter project, which uses a learning-by-teaching paradigm where children teach a robot to write, thereby improving their own handwriting skills. A landmark 2021 study (58 citations) demonstrated this approach’s effectiveness in treating severe dysgraphia in a 10-year-old boy, showing significant improvements in pressure, tilt, and speed control. Archambault also led the collaborative design of the R2C3 rehabilitation robot (2024) and developed the iReCheck project, which combines tablets and robots for personalised handwriting practice. Their work has accumulated over 90 citations, with notable publications in top venues including IDC and HRI conferences. By creating engaging, child-friendly interventions that turn learning into a collaborative game, Archambault has pioneered a novel therapeutic approach that empowers children with neurodevelopmental disorders to overcome writing challenges while maintaining motivation and enjoyment.
