David Mateos is a leading atmospheric scientist whose research focuses on the characterization and long-range transport of mineral dust and biomass burning aerosols, with a particular emphasis on desert dust events. His major contributions include pioneering the identification and analysis of African dust outbreaks over the Iberian Peninsula and the Caribbean Basin, using a combination of sun-photometer data from AERONET and ground-based particulate mass measurements.
