About

Chien-Yu Lai is a robotics and sensing systems researcher whose work centers on ultrasonic-based localization technologies for mobile robots. Over more than a decade of sustained inquiry, Lai has made meaningful contributions to solving one of the persistent challenges in autonomous robotics: accurately determining a robot's position within a defined environment. His most notable achievement lies in developing and refining omnidirectional ultrasonic sensing systems that overcome the critical detection-angle limitations inherent in conventional ultrasonic sensors. By engineering reflection cone architectures capable of generating 360-degree ultrasonic beam propagation, Lai's research has significantly expanded the practical utility of ultrasonic localization in real-world robotic applications.
