About
Chiara Spaccasassi investigates the neural and psychological mechanisms underlying embodiment, particularly how prosthetic limbs can be integrated into a user’s body schema. Her work bridges cognitive neuroscience, neuroprosthetics, and human–machine interaction, with a focus on sensory- and action-oriented embodiment in neurally-interfaced robotic hand prostheses. In her highly cited 2020 study (52 citations), she demonstrated that amputees can develop a lasting sense of ownership over a robotic hand, challenging traditional views of prosthesis acceptance.
