About

Bin Zou is a leading figure in satellite oceanography, specializing in the development and validation of remote sensing algorithms for marine environments. His primary research focuses on ocean color detection, atmospheric correction techniques, and the calibration of spaceborne sensors to monitor global chlorophyll-a concentrations—a key indicator of phytoplankton biomass and ocean health. Zou’s most cited work, "Global Ocean Chlorophyll-a Concentrations Derived From COCTS Onboard the HY-1C Satellite and Their Preliminary Evaluation" (2020, 33 citations), represents a landmark contribution to China’s Earth observation program. In this study, he pioneered the atmospheric correction and data processing pipeline for the Chinese Ocean Color and Temperature Scanner (COCTS) aboard the HY-1C satellite, launched in 2018.
