About
Annette Schmitt is a pioneering researcher at the intersection of computational design, robotic fabrication, and intelligent infrastructure management. Her work is defined by two primary research streams: biomimetic timber construction and autonomous infrastructure inspection. In her landmark 2014 paper on biomimetic lightweight timber plate shells, Schmitt demonstrated how computational integration of architectural geometry, robotic fabrication, and structural design can produce highly efficient, nature-inspired building systems—work that has garnered 49 citations and established her as a leading voice in digital timber construction. She subsequently advanced quality control methods for robotically fabricated timber plates, ensuring precision in complex geometries.
