About

Dr. Aayed Alqahtani is a pioneering pediatric surgeon whose work has revolutionized minimally invasive surgical approaches for children and adolescents. His primary research focuses on the safety, feasibility, and outcomes of robot-assisted pediatric surgery, particularly in bariatric procedures for young patients. Dr. Alqahtani’s landmark 2010 study, "Robot‐Assisted Pediatric Surgery: How Far Can We Go?" (76 citations), demonstrated the successful application of the da Vinci Surgical System across 144 diverse pediatric procedures, establishing a critical benchmark for robotic surgery in this vulnerable population. He further advanced the field with his 2011 comparative study on robotic gastric banding in children and adolescents (17 citations), providing evidence that robotic techniques can be effectively and safely used for weight management in young patients. Through these contributions, Dr. Alqahtani has not only expanded the boundaries of pediatric surgery but also offered new, less invasive treatment options for childhood obesity. His work continues to inspire safer, more precise surgical care for children worldwide.
