About
Zuoming Fu is a rising leader in the field of surgical navigation and medical robotics, with a focused expertise in advancing minimally invasive endoscopic procedures. His research centers on solving the critical challenges of intraoperative localization, spatial awareness, and tool control within the complex, tortuous anatomy of the human body. Fu’s major contributions include pioneering a novel visual-electromagnetic fusion system for flexible ureteroscopy, which directly addresses the problem of surgeon disorientation by enabling monocular localization, reconstruction, and measurement. He has also developed innovative methods for shape estimation of flexible endoscopes, a key step toward reliable intraoperative navigation. His work, which has garnered over 90 citations, is foundational for the next generation of robot-assisted intraluminal procedures. Notably, his 2021 review on advanced endoscopic vision technology has become a highly referenced resource in the field. By tackling the core components of registration, path planning, and shape reconstruction, Fu is actively building the technological framework for safer, more precise, and more intuitive surgical interventions.
