Y. Nishihama is a robotics researcher whose work centers on humanoid robot control, mobile manipulation, and human-robot interaction. Working primarily in the early-to-mid 2000s, Nishihama made significant contributions to solving one of humanoid robotics' most complex challenges: enabling robots to perform dexterous, accurate manipulation tasks while simultaneously managing body posture and locomotion. Nishihama's most influential work, "Mobile Manipulation of Humanoid Robots — Body and Leg Control for Dual Arm Manipulation" (2003), garnered 37 citations and introduced a pioneering control framework that allows humanoid robots to autonomously step and adjust body pose during dual-arm tasks, maintaining desired hand trajectories through impedance control.
