About
Takashi Matsuda is a robotics engineer whose work bridges the gap between tactile sensing and autonomous drone communication. His research primarily focuses on developing sensor systems for legged robots and advancing multi-hop communication networks for unmanned aerial vehicles. Matsuda’s most cited paper, “Proposal and Development of Arrayed Sole Sensor for Legged Robot and Contact Force Detection Using Neural Networks” (2011, 10 citations), introduced an innovative arrayed tactile sensor made from flexible silicone rubber using MEMS technology. This work enabled legged robots to detect contact forces through neural network processing, significantly improving their walking stability and safety. More recently, Matsuda has contributed to drone communication systems, as seen in his 2021 study on multi-hop command and telemetry communications in the 169 MHz band (7 citations). This research addressed the need for long-range, reliable communication for drones in Japan, leveraging the VHF band’s superior diffraction properties. Matsuda’s contributions are particularly notable for their practical applications in robotics and telecommunications, with his sensor work laying groundwork for safer robot locomotion and his communication studies supporting the expanding use of drones in challenging environments.
