About
Pramit Khetrapal is a leading urological surgeon and researcher whose work has fundamentally shaped the modern surgical management of bladder cancer. His primary research focus is on comparing robot-assisted radical cystectomy (RARC) with open radical cystectomy (ORC), particularly investigating the role of intracorporeal urinary diversion in improving patient outcomes. Khetrapal’s landmark 2022 study in JAMA, cited over 320 times, provided pivotal evidence that robot-assisted surgery with intracorporeal diversion reduces 90-day morbidity and improves recovery compared to open surgery. He also led the landmark iROC trial, which established a rigorous evidence base for robotic techniques. His comprehensive meta-analyses, with over 100 citations, have systematically clarified differences in perioperative, oncological, and quality-of-life outcomes between surgical approaches. Beyond clinical trials, Khetrapal has contributed important work on cost-effectiveness, demonstrating the value of robotic surgery to healthcare systems, and on recovery metrics and health-related quality of life. His research has directly influenced surgical guidelines and practice worldwide, making him a key figure in the evidence-based adoption of robotic cystectomy.
