About
Pirabu Sakthivel is a pioneering head and neck surgeon whose work centers on advancing minimally invasive surgical techniques for oral cavity, oropharyngeal, and supraglottic malignancies. His most notable contribution is the development and validation of TransOral UltraSonic Surgery (TOUSS), a novel approach that leverages ultrasonic energy for precise tumor resection while preserving critical functions. In a landmark 2021 prospective study, Sakthivel demonstrated the feasibility, safety, and efficacy of TOUSS, reporting excellent margin control, favorable functional outcomes, and promising survival data. This work, which has garnered 8 citations, represents a significant step forward in reducing morbidity associated with traditional open surgery. Beyond this, Sakthivel’s research portfolio encompasses oncologic outcomes, voice and swallowing rehabilitation, and surgical innovation. His dedication to refining transoral techniques has positioned him as a key figure in the evolution of head and neck oncology, offering patients less invasive options without compromising oncologic principles.
