Mikhail Sachkov is a leading figure in space-based astronomy, specializing in ultraviolet astrophysics and the development of cutting-edge astronomical instrumentation. As the head of the Space Astrometry Department at the Institute of Astronomy of the Russian Academy of Sciences (INASAN), his major contributions center on the design and scientific implementation of high-precision space observatories, most notably the Russian-led WSO-UV (World Space Observatory-Ultraviolet) project.
