About
Michael Metro is a urologic surgeon and reconstructive specialist whose work has fundamentally advanced the field of robotic ureteral reconstruction. Based at Temple University, Metro has focused his career on developing and refining minimally invasive surgical techniques for managing complex ureteral strictures — a historically challenging problem that previously required morbid open surgery or chronic drainage. His most celebrated contribution is pioneering the use of buccal mucosa grafts in robotic ureteroplasty, a technique borrowed from urethroplasty and adapted for ureteral reconstruction. His landmark 2017 multi-institutional study on this approach has accumulated 145 citations, establishing it as a foundational reference in the field.
