M. Herman is a leading figure in atmospheric aerosol research, whose work has fundamentally advanced the use of multi-angular polarimetry for global aerosol monitoring. His most impactful contribution is the validation of the GRASP (Generalized Retrieval of Aerosol and Surface Properties) algorithm using POLDER/PARASOL satellite data, a landmark study that has garnered over 227 citations.
