About

Charles Fage is a researcher at the intersection of human-robot interaction and assistive technologies for neurodiverse populations. His work spans two critical domains: the design and evaluation of technology-based interventions for children and adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and the analysis of operator situation awareness in robotic workspaces. Fage’s most impactful contribution is a systematic review examining the effectiveness and usability of technology-based interventions for young people with ASD, focusing on the reliability, consistency, generalization, and durability of intervention effects. This work, with 57 citations, provides a foundational framework for understanding how digital tools can support social and behavioral development. In parallel, Fage has explored the degradation of human situation awareness in robotic environments, applying Endsley’s model to analyze 45 industrial accident reports. His 2021 study identifies eight “SA demons” that compromise operator performance, offering practical insights for safer human-robot collaboration. By bridging clinical intervention research with industrial safety, Fage demonstrates a rare ability to translate cognitive engineering principles across domains, making his work valuable for both special education technology developers and robotics safety engineers.
