About

A. F. Valeev is a leading astrophysicist whose research bridges the high-energy universe of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) and the search for new worlds beyond our solar system. A key contributor to the Russian multi-messenger Lomonosov space observatory, Valeev specializes in multi-wavelength observations, analyzing prompt and afterglow emission from GRBs across optical, X-ray, and gamma bands. Their work on GRB 161017A (23 citations) and GRB 150309A (7 citations) has been instrumental in characterizing these cataclysmic events, including the identification of reverse shock signatures and the properties of "dark" GRBs, which may be obscured by dust or lie at extremely high redshifts. Beyond transient phenomena, Valeev has made significant strides in exoplanet science, leading the Exoplanet Two-Square Degree Survey with the SAO RAS robotic telescope. This work has yielded eight new exoplanet candidates (5 citations), demonstrating a rare versatility that spans from the most violent explosions in the cosmos to the subtle dimming of stars as planets transit. Valeev’s dual focus on GRB physics and exoplanet detection showcases a unique observational skill set, making them a prominent figure in both time-domain astronomy and planetary science.
