Abstract
The present era is full of many emerging areas, all of which being linked to a great technology named the Internet of Things (IOT). The unique feature of IOT, to connect all the things (devices) through the medium of the internet, itself reveals its significance in today’s world. The data collected from these devices being communicated too fast through this technology. As the data is being accessed in large volumes, it requires the use of data analytics to mine the necessary content from it, which in turn helps in making predictions which can inform future decisions. Depending on the sensor used to collect the data, the data can be classified into many types. One such form of data are images, which are collected through cameras. Images are explained with the help of image processing technology, which uncovers the information hidden under different layers of images. As a single image is capable of representing a thousand of words, in this chapter a detailed discussion on the role of IoT is discussed in the field of image processing and related applications. There are many applications in which the role of image processing is needed, as in a wildlife system classification in which the presence of an animal in an image is required to locate the actual real-world location of an animal. Similarly, the real-time monitoring of elderly people can be carried out using image processing and IoT. In the field of medical science, various reports of a patient, such as X-rays, can be judged through image processing and communicated through IoT. The results thus acquired can be then analysed using techniques of data analytics. One can also see the similar role in the field of agriculture where a disease of a leaf or a fruit is being examined. IoT-enabled robots are also popular in many developed countries for a range of various agriculture-related tasks. The entire chapter throws light on the various emerging fields in which IoT is being employed to solve problems.
