Abstract

Despite its significant advancements in various fields, India faces numerous challenges in its healthcare sector, including inadequate infrastructure, shortage of competent workers, and limited access to medical services. The advent of AI and robotics has shown immense potential in transforming healthcare delivery, making it more accessible, affordable, and efficient. Factors contributing to the growing interest in these technologies include rising healthcare demands, shortage of healthcare professionals, data availability, government initiatives, industry investments, and the need for patient-centric care. The Indian AI and robotics healthcare ecosystem comprises startups, well-established businesses, research institutions, and government efforts. AI and robotics have the potential to transform various aspects of healthcare in India, such as accessibility, affordability, quality of care, healthcare workforce, research and innovation, and global collaboration. AI can assist in tasks like medical imaging, drug discovery, clinical decision-making, and patient monitoring, while robotics can aid in surgery, rehabilitation, and patient care. Despite being in the early stages, several promising initiatives are underway in India, driven by the government, private sector, and research institutions. However, challenges like lack of data, need for more research and development investment, and the requirement for robust regulatory frameworks need to be addressed to fully realise the potential of these technologies. With the right investments and regulations, India can harness AI and robotics to transform its healthcare sector, improving health outcomes, reducing costs, and increasing access to services.
