Abstract

We report a bionic mechanical hand integrated with MEMS gas sensor array for improving the performance of object recognition by the fusion of the artificial olfactory and tactility. Combined with the algorithm inspired by Drosophila, the bionic mechanical hand is able to respond to various kinds of gases within 1 s and identify 9 gases with an excellent recognition accuracy of 97.8% within 5 s. Moreover, the success probability of recognizing object and grasping target for the rescue robot equipped with our bionic mechanical hand is above 90%. It suggests that this bionic mechanical hand has great potential in analyzing complex gas components, precise object search and rapid emergency rescue.
