Abstract
Rescue robots, which are robots that have been designed for the purpose of rescuing people, are useful in natural and man-made disasters. In this paper, we develop a remote controlled rescue robot using ZigBee communication. The main body of the rescue robot is a caterpillar with two arm crawlers. Two arm crawlers are used for running over obstacles. Users can control the rescue robot forward/backward and right/left with a remote controller through ZigBee communication. Also it is possible to observe the situation of a disaster area by a Wi-Fi camera on PC. The Wi-Fi camera is rotated right/left with the remote controller. The effective distance between the rescue robot and the remote controller is 120 m outdoors.
