Abstract
Virtual reality (VR) is the interaction of humans with the simulated environment created using computing technology. The VR is already utilized for applications in the field of medicine, military, manufacturing, entertainment, robotics, visualization, education, navigation, tourism, path planning, shopping, construction, and designing. In military applications of VR, it can be used for training, simulations, and path planning and navigation. In the medical field, it is used for training, surgery planning, and pain recovery. Gaming is another area where VR is highly utilized. The whole gaming industry is based on VR. Tourism and other means of entertainment are also using VR in several ways. Education is making use of VR for training in practical subjects. Healthcare services are in ever-increasing demand. People are aware that technology can automate a lot of steps for them, namely, online appointments, sharing of reports, videoconferencing, and much more. The new age technology, namely: AI, digital twin, machine learning, IoT, blockchain, and VR can be used to increase the experience of the patients and doctors in the healthcare industry. Several applications of VR to the healthcare industry are reviewed in this chapter. The chapter also presents a model for the amalgamation of new age technology in the healthcare domain.
