Abstract

Independent smart cars are one of the applications of generic technology sets used to improve vehicle independence driving features, partially or completely. Often, real solutions refer to some mobile robot technologies and, this paper regards independent cars as platforms of mobile robots. We present the implementation and testing for two smart cars models. These are equiped with various sensor technologies to keep the mid lane car going (as the function of the Lane Keeping Assist) and to have a desired distance between the car and the car preceding it (as the function of the Adaptive Cruise Control). Furthermore, it can avoid collision detection and collision on the road. The strategy for the control of the smart car is relies on algorithms, which are implemented by switching, where, algorithm 1 is designed based on the RST algorithm and algorithm 2 is multi-position. The efficiency and benefits of the strategies showed are proved by experiments with smart cars.
