Abstract

Here we consider the problem of communicateng with a robot by human body motions. As a first step toward solving this problem, we propose an algorithm to identify a person who does a prespecified motion as a signal to start communications in a well structured environment, such1 as a factory, a building, etc. We subtract the background image from an input image to construct a difference image from which we can determine the moving blocks. By filtering the computed values we can identify its stop motion. We conjirm the detection of a person by the mask matching to j'oot images. Using a CCD video camera and a personal' computer we have made a several bench-mark test experiments. The results show the stability of the proposed algorithms.
