Abstract

This paper focuses on human–robot interaction (HRI) design and describes an emotional expression system for humanoid robot. The system is set on the chest of the robot and consists of LED lights and breathing simulator, with which the robot is expected to visually express its emotions to the user. We had participants join in our experiment to test what kind of emotion is recognized and how strong it is when the system works in different patterns. The result shows that the proposed system has the potential to express different emotions of humanoid robot to help users better understand robot's intention in HRI. © 2022 Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan.
