Abstract
Aiming at the problem of inefficiency, low degree of automation in high voltage insulator detection, an auto detection system for insulator inspection robot was designed. Step motor was adopted as the drive for robot moving joints, FPGA was adopted as main control unit for step motor control, signal acquisition and wireless communication control. The man-machine interface was programmed by LabVIEW. System monitoring and signal analysis was handled by this man-machine interface. Period prediction method was adopted so that robot could stop at a proper position. The test result shows that robot can work stably in positive and negative direction and it can detect the insulator voltage precisely. The robot has detected ten insulators within fifty nine seconds. Above all, the system has a high efficiency in detecting and has a relatively high degree of automation.
